Students will be assigned to a specific theme. The group will work together to write, edit, and create one act plays. Lessons in dialogue and character development will be emphasized.
Instructor Robert Ford: Robert has directed main stage productions including "The Best Christmas Pageant Ever" and for the past few years has led theatre programs for youth both at Baechtal Grove Middle School, and at Blosser elementary.
Acting Essentials: Learn the basics, and grow as an actor! The instructor will share a series of acting tips and exercises. Students will work collectively on one act plays to perform for the “live streamed talent show.”
Instructor Oscar Montelongo Medina: Oscar has performed at SPACE, Ukiah Players Theater, Mendocino College, and the Luther Burbank Center for the Arts.
Song Writing: Have you ever wanted to write your own song? Starting with a theme, students will work together to write and perform their own song.
Instructor Jeff Shipp: Jeff Shipp has recently been in the WCT productions of Doubt, Den of Thieves, and 12th Night. He hosts a radio show on local radio station 97.9, where he highlights great songs from the 50s and 60s. He has a passion for song writing and writing pop rock music with his 7 year old son Finn about B-movie monsters. His favorite musicals include Pippin, School of Rock, and Les Miserables.
Sing it!: Do you love to sing? This class is for you! The instructor will share voice exercises emphasizing pitch, tone, and breathing. Students will master selected songs to perform for the streamed variety show.
Instructor Tina Marie Silveira: Tina Marie is a veteran of the stage. She has sung and acted both stateside, and in Europe. She is an alumnus of the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, and she instructs voice and piano privately from her Hillside Music Studio here in Willits.
Shakespeare for All: Want to learn about Shakespeare?
Students will be given three speeches from the plays of William Shakespeare to study. They will be asked to memorize them, learn what the words mean, write short essays about what the monologues mean, and learn how to act them as if they were actors in a play. Students will choose their favorite monologue, and then deliver it, in full Shakespearean color and gesture, as part of our workshop’s variety show.
Instructor Mike A’Dair: Mike A’Dair is an actor, director, and writer who has worked with the Willits Community Theatre for many years. He has directed Waiting for Godot, Top Girls, A Trip to Bountiful, and In the Next Room.
Set Painting: Have you ever wondered how a theatre set is painted? This is the class for you. Explore various tips and tricks to create common elements such as trees, bricks, rocks, and clouds. Students will practice their skills and contribute to the creation of a virtual set. A montage of the set development will be featured in the streamed variety show.
Instructor Gretchen Moore: Gretchen has been a set painter with WCT for many years now creating some of our most memorable sets. Gretchen has taught classes at WCT on set painting and technique.
Dancin' on the Raliroad: If you have even thought about dancing, this is the class for you! Students will learn the fundamentals of Dance Theatre, an integral set of skills that will pave the way for the rest of their lives. Students will learn, practice, and perform a dance for the Variety Show.
Instructor: Heidi Huckelberry Rodriguez: Heidi has 20 years of professional dance and theatre experience. She started dancing at the young age of 6. She is trained in ballet, jazz, tap, and modern dance. She graduated from the University of Arizona with a BA in Japanese, and a minor in Dance and Art. She lived & performed in Tucson, Los Angeles, Guam, Las Vegas, and around the world via Cruise Ships. Jubilee!, Les Folies Bergere, and Sin City Comedy are just a few of the shows she has performed in. Heidi is also a certified BASI Pilates Instructor and Yoga Instructor. She has trained performers in several Cirque Du Soleil shows, and has taught dance at several studios and gyms. Teaching and sharing the love of movement is her passion. When she is not teaching, she enjoys swimming, drawing, and cooking with her husband and two boys ages 3 & 5.
